Initiation - What to prepare for

Initiation into Phi Sigma Kappa will be one of the highest achievements of your life.  Below are things to anticipate, what to wear, and how to be overall prepared

The key things to know

1. We don't haze.
Prepare not to have to deal with that kind of stuff

2. When it starts and will end:
Our ceremony typically begins early afternoon on Friday and ends late evening on Saturday (sooner if possible). Please inform your loved ones immediately.

During this very special members-only ceremony, you will be out of direct contact with loved ones.  Every current and alumnus member has gone through the same ceremony since 1873 nationally and 1967 locally at NIU.

The Chapter President can always be reached at 815.977.7560 ext 22.  The Chapter Inductor can be reached at 815.977.7560 ext. 26, and the Chapter Advisor can be reached at 815.977.7560 ext. 11.  To contact all chapter officers simultaneously, call 815.977.7560 ext 20.

3. Proper attire for the weekend includes, but is not limited to
 a. Dress/Suit Coat
 b. Dress pants/slacks
 c. Collard/formal dress shirt
 e. Proper Neck Tie
 f. Dress Shoes (no sneakers)
 g. Dress socks (no athletic socks)
 h. Casual change of clothes (comfortable, relaxed attire, i.e., sweat pants, shorts, t-shirt, etc.)

4. Additional items to bring
 a. Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, comb/hair brush, etc.)

 b. Reading/Study materials (books, papers, non-electronic homework assignments, or study guides)

4. Things not to bring
 a. Laptop/Tablets
 b. Electronics/gaming/audio devices
c. Valuable personal items (jewelry, watches, rings, etc.)

5. Food/nutrition
Please eat well before arriving at the fraternity house on Friday.  We want to ensure you have any dietary concerns addressed BEFORE arriving.  Your nutritional health matters!  Please update us on any dietary restrictions you may have.  Additional nutritional foods will be provided.

IMPORTANT:  While you will be going through a private ritual ceremony over the weekend, at NO time will you be truly "alone" or unable to connect with a loved one or they connect with you in the event of an emergency.  At all times, the Chapter President, Chapter Inductor (new member Educator), and/or other Chapter Officers will be with you.  You will never be "alone" and will always remain in the safety of others.  We pride ourselves on the high quality of this experience and bringing you into the more fuller knowledge of what becoming a Phi Sig can mean.
